Get Serious About Promoting Your Web Site

You've built your web site. You've validated, tweaked, optimized and made it as effective, perfect, and useful as possible. You've manually submitted to search engines and relevant directories. Your content is fresh, unique and free of spelling and grammatical errors. You've done everything that you should and yet your web site just sits there, languishing, in Internet obscurity.

We all know that without visitors/traffic there's little chance that your web site is going to accomplish the results you desire. We understand that we need visitors to sell our products or services and we know that it's not enough to rely on search engines to supply the traffic necessary for success.

So what's the secret? How do you get those all important visitors to your web site? Unfortunately their are no quick fixes or magic formulas, that I know of, but their are things that you can do. The first thing that you need to do is get serious about marketing your web site. Let's face it, your not going to have visitors if no one knows you exist. Forget about search engine optimization and start getting the word out. Your site's great, leave it alone and work on promotion.

Once you have decided to do some serious marketing the next thing that you should do is to decide on a strategy and start a marketing campaign. Their are three tried and true strategies that you can use to self-promote your web site that needs no additional software and is absolutely free. Those strategies are writing articles, writing press releases and link requests. In this article we are going to talk about link requests.

link requests In marketing the term popularity refers to sites of the same niche (sites that are relevant to the content of your web site) that link to you. Increasing your popularity is one of, if not the best, form of marketing your web site. So, sit down and write a link request.

Each link request should be as personalized as possible, but to save time, you could create a link request template. You can edit the appropriate information in the template for each request. The request should be professional, courteous, and to the point. Compliment the webmaster on his or her site, tell them where you have placed their link on your site, where you would like them to place your link, thank them for considering your request and close.

Use the webmasters name When you find a site that you would like to link to you should familiarize yourself with the site. Search the site and find the webmasters name and include it in the subject line and the request. Dear Jim sounds a lot more personal than Dear Webmaster and it proves that you have actually spent time on their web site.

Use your name Introduce yourself immediately by giving your name. "Hi Jim my name is Daryl" makes the request more personal and more apt to be considered by the reader. If you have a business you can also include your phone number. You probably won't get a call but it gives your email much more credibility.

Give your contact information

Illegitimate email does not include contact information so be sure to include your email address and your URL. Let them know that you are eager to hear from them.

When you find a relevant site edit the appropriate information in your template, link to it, and then send the webmaster your link request. Make it as easy as possible for the webmaster to link to your site. If the webmaster has not responded to your request after a predetermined time remove his/her link from your web site.

Link management
As the number of sites that link to you increases you may want to add a link management system. Link managers automatically check your reciprocal links and remove those that no longer link back to your site. You can find several really good link management scripts that are free to use.

To win you have to compete and to compete you have to get into the game. So send a link request to as many quality relevant sites as possible. The more requests you make, the greater your chances of success. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease". And don't be afraid to ask sites with a high page rank. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. The higher the page rank of the site the greater the degree of importance. One link from a site with a rank of 7 is worth 100 with a rank of 0.

Keys to Your Chariot

Your Chariot

Automobile security has changed dramatically in the last several years. We have gone from the era when there were only 2000+ key combinations used for every car of the largest auto manufacturer, to transponder controlled ignition systems, that change electronic codes each time you start your car. From the 30's to the 60's it was somewhat common that you might know someone whose car key also fit your car. Today just to obtain a duplicate key for your car, can be difficult and expensive.

What are transponder controlled systems and how do they work? The technology, it may surprise you is really quite old. A "transponder" is in essence a combination radio frequency receiver and transmitter. It transmits a radio signal or binary code that can be picked up by another receiver, if the codes or signals match, then some action is allowed. Transponder technology has been used for many years, and is still used today for aviation control. When a pilot needs to be positively identified in a radar environment, air traffic control will give him a specific code, that he will dial into his transponder, the transponder will continuously transmit that code, which will be received by the radar, a labeled "blip" will appear on the air control radar that shows exactly where that aircraft is. The miniaturization of electronics now allows a transponder to be placed in the head of your car key, this transponder transmits a specific code that is received by a receiver in the dashboard of your car, if they match, you can start your car.

Some of the problems with current transponder systems include;

No standard system - at last count there are five different manufacturers of these systems - how and who they allow to produce duplicate or replacement keys seems to differ with each system.

Some will allow only the manufacturer of the car to service any part of the system - this usually results in severe time and expense penalties.

Some will only allow the auto dealers to service systems or provide duplicate keys - again the result is more time and expense.

Some will allow locksmiths to service systems and provide duplicate keys - there usually is no time delay involved, because specialized electronic equipment must sometimes be used, it will still be more expensive than the consumer may expect.

Some systems do not require the use of specialized equipment, but may require that 2 or more original keys and the car be present to allow "programming" duplicate keys to the vehicle.

Because of the difficulty of explaining these systems, and the expense that can be involved, some dealers and /or salesmen are reluctant to discuss these systems. It is imperative that you know if your vehicle is equipped with an ignition security system, how it operates, and what is involved in obtaining duplicate keys. You may have to demand that you be given this information.

The benefit of these systems is that having duplicate keys, does require that they be programmed to the car, by some method. The likelihood of someone obtaining an unauthorized duplicate is very remote.

Garage Flooring - A Whole New Ball Game

Now once upon a time in the world of garage flooring it used to be pretty simple, if you wanted to have something other than the bare concrete then you either got some clear coat protectant or you painted it. Today that is no longer the case, as with everything else in the world, people have found ways to "pimp out" their garage floors. Two of the most popular ways that have come around as of late are epoxy coating and garage flooring tiles. Within each category there are several styles and colors available and the install times can vary, but here is the breakdown of the pros and cons of each.

When it comes to garage floor epoxy coatings there are several options. Rustoleum is one of the better known manufacturers of this type of coating. If you are sitting on the edge as to which kind of garage flooring you should use, you should make note that one of the very first things that Rustoleum says on their Info page is that you should not do epoxy coating if you have Sealed Concrete, Poorly Bonded Previous Paint or Loose or Poorly Cured Concrete or Concrete Dust you can take yourself out of the running for this option right now. What you will see as you shop around for garage floor coverings is that epoxy coating is a good less expensive option for preferably newer homes with newer garages going in some of the downfalls of the epoxy coating are first, the almost toxic process of applying it to your garage floor, the majority of epoxy coatings require a multistage process with very strong smelling chemicals and sometimes acid etching is involved. Also, if you live in climates where your garage is going to be wet, epoxy coating doesn't offer that traction that other garage flooring materials do. My recommendation is that if you are looking to flip a house and looking for a quick way to make the garage look a lot better but you are not going to have to deal with the usability side of it then epoxy coating is the way to go.

My research and experience has shown that there is a better, cleaner, healthier alternative to epoxy coating when it comes to garage floor covering and that is garage floor tile. The best Garage floor tile that I have found in my searching is made by a company out of Salt Lake City, Utah called RaceDeck. Their flooring is designed so that really anyone can just snap them together, almost like the linkin logs of garage flooring. You can buy either 12"x12" or 18"x18" these can go down on any concrete surface just as long as it is flat so you don't have to worry about whether it is sealed or purely cured etc.. Another nice thing about products like RaceDeck is the fact that there are no harmful chemicals that you have to work with and inhale; its just a matter of snapping the tiles together.

So if you are in the market for new garage flooring I would recommend something like RaceDeck flooring that is simple, clean and can just snap together within a matter of hours.
